SECRETARY GENERAL - Scadenza: 15 January 2012

The Young European Federalists (JEF-Europe), the international non-governmental youth organisation (INGYO) is looking for candidates to fill the position of Secretary General (SG).

As elected officer and legal representative, the Secretary-General works full-time for the organisation at the European Secretariat in Brussels and is responsible for:

  • administration of the organisation, including writing of project applications and reporting;
  • the financial management of the organisation (together with the treasurer);
  • the organisation of seminars, projects, training events and support for other campaign activities;
  • the organisation of statutory meetings;
  • external representation (European Institutions, NGOs, etc.);
  • internal and external communication including maintenance of the JEF-Europe websites;
  • the organisational support to the Executive Bureau (EB) and support to the member sections;
  • day-to-day office work and management of human resources in the European Secretariat; 
The Secretary General should have:
  • extensive experience in NGO work, ideally on a European level and/or in JEF;
  • extensive experience in project management;
  • experience with finances and bookkeeping;
  • experience with institutional fundraising, especially EU grants;
  • excellent language skills; fluency in English and basic knowledge of French and/or Dutch;
  • experience with human resources and team management;
  • excellent communication and presentation skills;
  • excellent knowledge of MS/OpenOffice and online communications (email, social media);
  • the willingness to undertake frequent travels;
  • the sensibility to work in a multilingual and multicultural environment. 
A strong interest in European politics, knowledge of Belgian contracting and employment regulations and knowledge of any other European languages are considered as assets.

The applicant should show flexibility (15+ week-ends/year), 
initiative, personal commitment and motivation on supporting the activities promoted by the organisation.

JEF-Europe offers an interesting position in an international environment and a high degree of independence in day-to-day work. S/he will be supported by one or more mid-term stagiaires in the Brussels office.

JEF-Europe will issue a working contract under Belgian law, limited for 2 years, including a trial period of 3 months, starting in summer 2012 (exact date to be defined).

Annual gross pay: EUR 25.000-30.000 (including benefits).

The selected candidates will be invited for an interview taking place in Brussels in the beginning of February. Only short-listed candidates will be contacted. The invitation to the interview will be communicated by 23 January 2012.

The final decision will be taken by the Federal Committee (FC) of JEF Europe (the SG is appointed by the FC upon recommendation by the EB according to the Statutes of JEF-Europe), at its meeting that will take place in Vienna, Austria from 30 March until 1 April 2012.

PROJECT OFFICER - Scadenza: 20 January 2012

Cardno Emerging Markets, Belgium s.a. is currently seeking a Project Officer for a full-time position with the EU Gateway Programme’s Central Management Unit.

The Project Officer will be based in Cardno’s Brussels office.

EU Gateway Programme

The Programme is funded by the European Commission and focuses on establishing business collaboration between companies from EU countries and companies in Japan and Korea. Cardno is contracted by the European Commission to operate the Central Management Unit (CMU), which is responsible for Programme communication, maintaining the Programme website, preparing market studies of the Programme sectors in Japan and Korea, participating in the selection of the EU companies and overall planning, management and monitoring of the Programme.

The CMU works closely together with the European Commission, the Coaching Network in Europe which is responsible for recruiting EU companies and the Operational and Logistics Units in Japan and Korea which is responsible for organising the Business Weeks. Job Description

The Project Officer will work closely with Cardno’s Project Manager for the Central Management Unit. The specific tasks for the Project Officer are:

  • Planning and implementing programme communication and

promotion activities, such as updating Programme flyers, writing press releases and e-newsletters, promoting Programme success stories, maintaining mailing lists and social media networks, etc

  • Maintaining and updating the Programme website Participating in selected trade fairs and conferences in Europe to promote the Programme
  • Contributing to the assessment and selection of EU companies
  • Participating in regular management meetings with the Commission and the Coaching 
Network
  • Coordinating work with the Programme offices in Japan and Korea
  • Organising and participating in annual coordination meetings in Brussels
  • Participating in one business week to Japan or Korea per year
  • Collection and analysing information and data on the Programme progress
  • Preparation of quarterly progress reports to the European Commission

The successful candidate shall have:

Higher education in business, European policy, projects, communication or a related field.

Minimum three years of relevant business experience

Business level fluency in written and oral English; other European languages an advantage.

Good planning and organisational skills; mature and a self starter personality meeting strict 
deadlines

Experience in working on projects financed by the European Commission.

Experience in planning and organising communication and promotion activities, utilising 
written, web-based and social media in English.

Experience in managing the work of suppliers such as print houses, web-design company, 
etc

Good skills in website management, including practical experience in using a Content 
Management System (CMS)

Good skills in professional use of all Microsoft Office products

Experience with SQL based data management systems an advantage

The EIB, the European Union’s bank is seeking to recruit for its Economics Department (ECON), at its headquarters in Luxembourg an economist.

 

The Economics Department (ECON) provides high level economic analysis and studies to support the Bank in its operations and in the definition of its global positioning, strategy and policy, reporting jointly to the Directors General of the Directorate for Lending Operations in Europe (Ops A) and of the Directorate for Lending Operations outside the European Union (Ops B).

The successful candidate will work within a matrix structure and will contribute to economic and financial research/analysis on a wide range of issues (policy, operational, sectoral, micro and macro economic) supporting the core operational work of the EIB in order to contribute to the achievement of its objectives. S/he will work on policy related topics, but also country and financial sector analysis, as well as economic studies.

Accountabilities

Produce policy papers and notes on matters affecting Bank operations

As needed, elaborate appropriate statistical tests and conduct the economic analysis of results

Review and analyse existing work on relevant subjects

Analyse country specific matters and contribute to the design and implementation of technical assistance projects in the financial sector

Work on specific assignments, aiming at providing economic thinking behind the development of new instruments for the Bank

Qualifications

University level education in Economics or Finance at Master’s or, preferably, at PhD level.

2012 EU JOURNALISM TRAINING - Scadenza: 30 January 2012

In 2011, Fondation EurActiv and the Robert Bosch Stiftung launched an innovative training programme to help young journalists gain experience in European Union policies and online media. The second edition of this programme will start in Spring 2012 and applications are now open.

 

Selected applicants will be invited to follow a week’s training in Berlin. (Organized in cooperation with EurActiv Germany and taking place in March 2012)

The Berlin seminar will include training on contemporary case-studies and new journalism techniques. Topics will include: How to turn EU stories local – and local stories European, ‘Europe 2020’, the EU's Digital Agenda, financial crisis and reforms as well as energy policy.

Based on their knowledge and performance shown during the Berlin seminar, six journalists will be selected for the second phase: up to eight weeks of internship with Fondation EurActiv in Brussels.

 

This intense training phase will provide a unique opportunity to live and breathe EU journalism right in the centre of Europe within a team of experienced, international reporters working for one of the most renowned online EU media.

During the training weeks, each of the selected journalists will produce stories for publication in their home media and possibly for EurActiv.com. They will have the chance to attend EC press conferences, do VIP interviews and cover both areas of their own expertise (related to their home media) or unrelated policy areas if they wish. In addition, a guided trip to a Strasbourg European parliamentary week will be organised and the training period in Brussels should coincide with a EU Summit.

 

Each selected journalist will be assigned a senior editor, who will act as mentor and coach. Regular coaching will be provided from the editors in Brussels, while journalists will continue to be employed by their sending media, which will benefit from their added EU reporting knowledge after the training.

Successful fellows will become members of an alumni network, with regular updates and opportunities to work on future EU related stories together with other journalists who have participated in the programme.

Thanks to the Robert Bosch Stiftung, selected participants will be reimbursed for travel costs and living expenses in Brussels. Support in finding accommodation in Brussels will be given.

 

Selection criteria:

Minimum of TWO and no more than FIVE years of journalism experience

Currently employed by a media outside Brussels and employer supportive of participation

In possession of a valid journalist card (students and former journalists cannot participate)

German, Austrian, Spanish, Polish, French, British, Danish, Finnish, Dutch or Greek nationality

Available for one week in March 2012 and for up to 8 weeks as of 07/05/2012 or 03/09/2012

Knowledge of or willingness to learn how to write for the web and how to use social media;

Very good oral and written English

Main duties

Candidate profile
